Shades

MYL offers 20 standard Roman Shade styles and nine different Operating Systems to mix and match. If that is not enough diversity, we look forward to quoting your favorite version of Custom Roman Shades. Custom designs are available, just include a picture or sketch to request an MYL estimate. All shades are fabricated with child safety in mind.

If you are a Custom Workroom, you may want to check out The Kit Store. MYL offers 15 assembled Operating System Kits for those who fabricate their own fabric shades, but would rather not deal with the hassle of making the operating system. Kits arrive assembled ready to mount.

Types

  • Roman Shades
  • Balloon Shades
  • Austrian Shades

All MYL shades are child safety compliant using the new Safe-T-Shade Ring Lock System.

Variations
  • RR Fabric – Maximum length cannot exceed fabric width minus cutting allowance (max 84” finish length).

Yardage

Standard
  • Each product page in the pricing guide gives the MYL approved yardage.
Variations
  • Any yardage other than the MYL approved yardage must be clearly stated on the order with an explanation of any adjustments needed to be made to the number of cuts, the cut length, or to the product.
Additional
Charges
  • MYL charges for rolling out fabric sent with less yardage without explanation.
  • MYL charges for rolling out fabric sent with flaws and requested to see if we can get the cuts out around the flaws.

Lining

Standard
  • MYL has a complete selection of lining fabric available (see Lining Fabric Program Section).
  • If the lining is not specified, we assume lined in MYL Standard White.
  • The cost of the lining is not included in the price of the product.
  • MYL charges the same yardage as the product requires without repeat.
  • MYL requests that you do not send your own lining unless it is contrast.
Variations
  • If you provide your own lining, you must not send full bolts. MYL will only accept customers’ own lining if the lining is provided in the correct yardage amount as each face fabric.
  • MYL will not stock customers’ own lining.
  • MYL will not accept one roll of lining for multiple face fabric orders.
Additional
Charges
  • MYL charges for customer-supplied lining other than contrast.
  • Unlined scalloped bottom items will have an additional charge as a fabric band.
  • MYL charges to fill holes when blackout lining is used – must specify.

Interlining

Standard
  • MYL has a complete line of interlinings available (see Lining Fabric Program Section).
  • Most products have a code for interlining which covers the additional labor only, not the cost of the interlining fabric.
  • The cost of the interlining fabric is not included in the price of the product.
  • MYL charges the same yardage as the product requires without repeat.
  • MYL requests that you do not send your own interlining unless it is contrast.
Variations
  • If you provide your own interlining you must not send full bolts. MYL will only accept customers’ own interlining if the interlining is provided in the correct amount as each face fabric.
  • MYL will not stock customers’ own interlining.
  • MYL will not accept one roll of interlining for multiple face fabric orders.
Additional
Charges
  • MYL charges for customer-supplied interlining unless not stocked by MYL.
  • If no code is listed for that product to be interlined, MYL will up-charge the labor for that product. MYL charges the same yardage as the product requires without repeat.
  • MYL requests that you do not send your own interlining.
  • Additional charge for Multiple Shade Headrail.

  • Operating Roman Shades, flat with no fullness, cannot return to wall.

Measuring

Standard
  • Normal allowances are 4 inches past wood trim on sides and top.
  • Finished length is either sill, apron, or floor length.
  • Add 4 inches to width and 2 inches to returns when doing layered treatments.

Fabric Charges

Additional Charges
  • Velvet, suede, leather, upholstery weight, and plaid fabrics require an up-charge.

Trim

Standard
  • Be sure to specify the trim placement on your order.

Band and Ruffle

Design Elements

Standard
  • If shades are different lengths, the tops of all shades will be the same unless otherwise specified.

Upgrades

Additional Charges
  • Contrast inserts on pleated shade items will have an additional charge.
  • To figure face fabric, find the number of cuts on the chart on the product page and divide by 2. Round answer up to the whole number. That is the number of cuts you need for each fabric (the face & the contrast fabric).

Valance for Top of Shade (up to 6″ finished length)

Additional Charges
  • Upholstered valance will be an additional charge.
  • Soft self valance will be an additional charge.
  • Allow ½ yard of fabric for each cut of fabric.

Back Shield

Additional Charges
  • A back shield is a 6-inch piece of lining on the back of board to hide the mechanism at top of the shade. This will be an additional charge.

Installation

Standard
  • Board to be centered on the window.
  • Brackets to be mounted 7/8” below ceiling or top of the board.
  • Brackets to be mounted 4” in on each end and every 40” to 50”.
  • Board lays on top of the angles.
  • Each bracket is screwed to the bottom of the board.
  • Note: Angle brackets are not included in the price.

Common Mistakes

  • Customers should be made aware that if the type of shade they are requesting is moved up and down it will take a little time to fix each pouf each time they move it.
  • Never specify the number of poufs or the size of the poufs.
  • The number of poufs is a function of the number of widths.
  • The number of poufs is determined to hide seams and to control the amount of droop.
